BROOKLYN FLEA MARKETS
Fodor’s recently named The Brooklyn Flea one of the world’s best markets, and it’s not hard to see why. The Flea has grown exponentially since it started five years ago, and last summer the outdoor market moved to its new home on the Williamsburg waterfront on Sundays. It still takes place in Fort Greene on Saturdays, too!
Featuring over 100 vendors selling an array of vintage clothing, jewelry, furniture and home décor, as well as gorgeous handmade items and some of the best food in NYC, it’s the perfect way to spend a sunny day this spring or summer.
The Flea features hundreds of top vendors of antique and repurposed furniture, vintage clothing, collectibles and antiques, as well as a tightly curated selection of jewelry, art, and crafts by local artisans and designers, plus delicious fresh food.
Start the day with a donut from Dough then sip a homemade cola from Brooklyn Soda Works or cool down with a People’s Pop while you browse the unique vintage and handcrafted treasures. Once you’ve shopped up an appetite make another stop for brick oven pizza from Pizza Moto’s portable brick oven, a pulled pork sandwich from Porchetta (your dog will get a special treat at this tent, too), or any of the dozens of other equally delectable choices. There’s even a nice little park with benches and grass where you can eat and relax right on the water.
Founded in April 2008, Brooklyn Flea has grown into one of New York City's top attractions, operating flea markets every weekend of the year that feature hundreds of top vendors of antique and repurposed furniture, vintage clothing, collectibles and antiques, as well as a tightly curated selection of jewelry, art, and crafts by local artisans and designers plus delicious fresh food.
The New York Times called the Flea "One of the great urban experiences in New York"; Travel + Leisure, Country Living, Budget Travel, and Fodor's have ranked the Flea one of the best markets or antiques shows in the U.S. and the world; and Time Out NY named the Flea one of New York's Essential Pick-Up Spots.
From April through Thanksgiving, the markets take place outdoors: on Saturdays in Fort Greene and on Sundays in Williamsburg. Every Saturday our giant all-food market Smorgasburg features 75-100 vendors in Williamsburg. From Thanksgiving through March the market moves indoors to Skylight One Hanson, an event space in the landmark former Williamsburgh Savings Bank. And every summer you can find Flea food vendors at the Central Park Summer Stage outdoor concert series where the Flea operates the food and beverage concession.

HISTORY
Since April 2008, Jonathan Butler, founder of Brownstoner.com, Brooklyn’s biggest blog, and Eric Demby, former communications director for Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, have operated the Brooklyn Flea, a weekly outdoor market in Fort Greene and other “pop-up” locations that features 150 local and regional vendors of antiques, vintage clothing, handmade items, jewelry, food, bicycles, records, and more. Now in its fourth year, the Flea has grown into a New York City institution, garnering local, national, and international press for its diversity of vendors, for the quality of food and merchandise, for the inclusive community aspects of the market's atmosphere, and for the economic stimulus the market provides to both vendors/entrepreneurs and local businesses.
The Flea has since moved around to winter pop-ups in DUMBO, a holiday market in Manhattan, the Brooklyn Masonic Temple, a gorgeous spot under the Brooklyn Bridge in DUMBO, and Skylight One Hanson at the former Williamsburg Savings Bank. In 2010, the Flea began operating the food and beverage concession at Central Park SummerStage, featuring several longtime food vendors and ice cream; the concession will continue through 2013. Go to our website for info on all past, current, and upcoming projects.
In 2009 the Flea was proud to receive a Certificate of Merit from the Municipal Art Society for making an "exceptional contribution to the life of New York City," and for "providing an alternative to big box retail that embodies a private sector spirit while yielding generous public benefits." In 2010 Citizens Union honored the Flea with its Community Leadership Award for "creativity in building forums for exchange—both physical and virtual—that are strengthening New Yorkers' spirit of community."

Fort Greene Flea
Saturday, 10am-5pm, Rain or Shine
176 Lafayette Ave. (btw. Clermont + Vanderbilt Ave.)
The Flea's Fort Greene flagship location features 150 vendors every Saturday from April through November. The 40,000 square foot schoolyard at Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School is part vintage bazaar, part hipster hang, part old-fashioned town square, and part food bonanza.
Williamsburg Flea
Sunday, 10am-5pm, Rain or Shine
East River Waterfront (btw. North 6 + 7 St.)
The Flea has expanded to a new site on the Williamsburg waterfront. Located between North 6th and North 7th Streets just south of East River State Park, the Sunday Flea features the same mix of vintage, antique, handmade, and food vendors as Fort Greene, with a gorgeous skyline view to boot.
Smorgasburg
Saturday, 11am-6pm, Rain or Shine
The Flea's Giant All-Food Market
East River Waterfront (btw. North 6 + 7 St.)
Smorgasburg, the weekly foodie fest on the East River sponsored by the folks from the Brooklyn Flea, is back for its second season starting April 7. Every Saturday more than 100 food vendors from all over the five boroughs and beyond fill the lot on the Williamsburg waterfront and sell deliciousness all day from 11am to 6pm.
Porchetta, Asia Dog, McClure’s Pickles, Milk Truck Grilled Cheese, Brooklyn Soda Works, People’s Pops, Blue Marble Ice Cream and dozens more peddle their edibles every Saturday alongside a 15 farmer greenmarket, a Brooklyn Kitchen stand selling household wares and workshops and meet-ups sponsored by Kickstarter.
And there’s even more to be excited about this year: Brooklyn Kitchen is bringing a new series of demonstrations and competitions to the table, and later in the season brings the premier of SmorgasBar, an area of the park dedicated to Brooklyn made alcoholic beverages, featuring beer from Brooklyn Brewery, Kelso and Sixpoint, wines from Brooklyn Winery and gin and whiskey from Breuckelen.
