CAR CHARGING GROUP & THE NORWALK PARKING AUTHORITY JOIN FORCES TO BRING ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING STATIONS TO NORWALK, CONNECTICUT

A First in Municipal Parking Areas in Fairfield County, CT

Car Charging Group Inc. (OTCB: CCGI) announced it has joined forces with the City of Norwalk and the Norwalk Parking Authority (NPA) to help residents prepare for the use of electric vehicles (EV) with the installation of EV charging stations in three municipal garages in Norwalk in Fairfield County, Connecticut. These are the first EV car charging stations to be installed in any municipal parking area in Fairfield County, CT.

"We are proud to be the first in the region to install car chargers in our public parking areas improving resources and options for motorists to use alternative vehicles and minimize Norwalk's carbon footprint as we move towards becoming a greener city," said Mayor Richard Moccia.

Car Charging Group will install Level II ChargePoint® Networked Charging Stations for EVs which are manufactured by Coulomb Technologies. The 7.2 kW output delivers Level II (208/240 VAC @ 30 A) charging via the standard SAE J1772(TM) connector and fixed 18 foot cable. The 2 kW output delivers Level I (120 VAC @ 16 A) charging via a standard NEMA 5-20 receptacle protected behind a locking door. Both outputs can deliver energy simultaneously.

The Norwalk Parking Authority, an enterprise fund, is responsible for the operations and maintenance of the city's municipal parking system consisting of four parking structures, six surface lots and on street parking. The car chargers are part of the Norwalk Parking Authority's commitment to making operations more sustainable. Other recent green initiatives include the installation of solar powered pay stations, environmentally friendly lighting at all Norwalk Parking Authority garages and the use of a T3 scooter for security at the South Norwalk railroad station which costs only 10 cents per day with little or no maintenance compared to using a gas truck.

"Our goal is to assist businesses, residents and visitors with their parking needs. With the impending arrival of the first electric cars from mainstream companies, drivers will be on the hunt for a charging station, not a gas station, and the Norwalk Parking Authority is preparing to open a wave of charging stations over the next year to meet their needs," says John Federici, Chairman of the Norwalk Parking Authority.

Car Charging Group Partners with Equity Residential to Install Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

MIAMI BEACH, Fla., Dec 14, 2010 - announced a pilot program with Equity Residential, one of the nation's largest owners and operators of apartments, to Install Electric Vehicle Charging Stations.

In the initial stage of the agreement, Car Charging Group will install and maintain EV charging stations in eight locations including Cambridge, MA, Washington, D.C, Coral Gables, FL, Deerfield Beach, FL, Seattle, WA, Redmond, WA, Los Angeles, CA and San Diego, CA. Residents at these locations will have the ability to charge their electric vehicles or plug-in hybrids with this easy to use and conveniently located amenity.

"Car Charging Group continues to believe that the multifamily residential market is vital to the success of the EV Industry. Where will the millions of Americans who live in high rise buildings go to charge their vehicles at night? asked Michael D. Farkas, CEO of Car Charging Group. "With most of Equity's units located in high growth population areas we are certain that its residents will find access to our charging stations to be increasingly useful as the first fleet of electric vehicles will hit American roads en mass this winter."

"Apartment and condo residents often do not have access to their own personal garages," continued Farkas. "As more and more plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles become available we need to establish a charging infrastructure in order to make it as simple as possible to charge these vehicles at convenient locations for these drivers.

ChargePoint Network

All ChargePoint networked EV charging stations are managed by the ChargePoint® Network and provide EV drivers the ability to locate and navigate to the charging station from any smart phone and the ability to detect charging station availability from a smart phone or Google Maps. The ChargePoint Network also facilitates EV trip mapping, driver billing, 24/7 driver assistance, and greenhouse gas and energy savings (kWh) measurement.

A recent report, "Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment," estimates that there will be 4.7 million residential, public, private and workplace charging stations installed globally during the period from 2010 to 2015. And in the U.S. there will likely be almost one million charging stations by 2015.

"We are currently working with forward thinking businesses, property owners and municipalities across the nation to build out the necessary infrastructure to support the mass adoption of EVs," said Car Charging Group CEO Michael D. Farkas. "We envision a vast network of charging stations that will make designated electric vehicle spots as ubiquitous as handicapped spaces in the near future."

THE CHARGE POINT SYSTEM

ChargePoint Network Operating System

Based on an open, highly secure, standards based platform, the CPNOS is architected to provide the following functionality for millions of networked charging stations:

  • Communication with networked charging stations to provide access control, monitoring, management, and remote upgrades of individual stations.

  • Runs on secure third-party hosted servers.

  • Supports multiple Web-based applications that provide a rich set of features and functions for drivers, municipalities, corporations, installers, fleet operators and utility companies.

  • Built on a scalable, industry standard platform: Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP (LAMP).

Open Access to all Drivers

By virtue of being networked, ChargePoint Networked Charging Stations can be configured to be open to all drivers of electric vehicles without the need for a “subscription”, or a relationship with a local utility, or an owner of that charging station. Drivers can access a ChargePoint Network:

  • Paying for a single charging session by placing a toll free call to the 24/7 telephone number.

  • Becoming a member of the ChargePoint Network by choosing a monthly subscription plan to fit their lifestyle.

  • Paying via a smart (RFID) credit/debit card (future).

  • Paying via standard credit or debit cards at Remote Payment Stations (RPSs) (future).

Because the architecture is open members of other charging systems will be able to use their smart cards at any ChargePoint Networked Charging Station just as they can roam between cell phone networks.

Networked Charging Stations

In the ChargePoint® Network, each local group of charging stations automatically forms a robust self healing Radio Frequency (RF) mesh network managed by a single gateway charging station—a version of the networked charging stations incorporating an embedded CDMA or GSM cellular modem. The CT1000 family is dedicated networked Level I (120V @ 16A) charging via a standard NEMA 5-20R outlet. Up to 127 charging stations can communicate to and be managed by a single gateway charging station which, in turn, uses the local cellular network to communicate with the CPNOS.

Networking Capabilities and Benefits

ChargePoint Networked Charging Stations provide many advantages over non-networked charging stations:

  • Open charging infrastructure to all drivers without requiring subscriptions.

  • Create a revenue stream to pay for electricity, capital equipment and maintenance.
