COMMISSIONER’S LETTER
As
we start the New Year, I am pleased to announce that our Annual Report
to the City Council for 2005 is now available on the TLC’s web
site. The report highlights not only the events and accomplishments
of 2005, but serves as a preview of some of the exciting projects in
store for 2006.
Of
particular note are the sections detailing the decline in consumer complaints
against taxicab drivers, as well as our progress on the taxicab customer
service technology enhancements that will beimplemented later this year.
The report also describes the TLC and its regulated industries’
efforts to help people during the December transit strike, and some
of the ways that we have made it easier to interact with our agency
via its website.
The
report can be found at:

To
share some good news, I would like to offer our congratulations to Cristyne
Nicholas, the tireless and effective President of NYC & Co. (the
City’s Convention and Visitors Bureau), and her husband Nick Nicholas
on the birth of their daughter, Rebecca Mary.
Recently, Cristyne and NYC & Co. Chairman Jonathan Tisch presided
over the organization’s Annual Meeting, at which both Mayor Michael
Bloomberg and Deputy Mayor Dan Doctoroff joined in the celebration of
a record year for tourism.
During
2005, New York City received 41 million visitors, which directly benefited
our regulated industries; and NYC & Co. projects 43 million visitors
during 2006.
In his State of the City Speech, Mayor Bloomberg set an even more aggressive
goal....50 million visitors annually by the year 2015 and announced
the creation of new initiatives to make this a reality.
NYC
& Co. will be embarking on a campaign to attract more tourists by
becoming more of a presence promoting New York City in countries around
the world. Through my service as a member of the Board of Directors
of NYC & Co., I will continue to work closely with this vital organization
in the coming years. One proud product of this partnership is our next
Driver Recognition Ceremony, which is scheduled for March 29th at “Top
of the Rock” in Rockefeller Center. We are looking forward to
this event at which we will honor drivers who have provided exceptional
customer service to the riding public.
