COMMISSIONER'S LETTER

By New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission Chairwoman & Cheif Executive Officer Meera Joshi

Hello, my name is Meera Joshi and I am the new Chair of the Taxi and Limousine Commission. Let me begin by saying how much I appreciate the genuine warmth and support I’ve received from people in the taxi and FHV industries since my nomination was originally announced last month. This reception fills me with confidence that we will be able to work together collaboratively and effectively to maintain New York City’s leadership position as the world capital of for-hire ground transportation.

As many of you know, I most recently served as the TLC’s Deputy Commissioner of Legal Affairs and General Counsel, but I have been in City government for more than a decade. Before the TLC, I was the First Deputy Executive Director of the New York City Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB), an agency devoted to investigating Police misconduct. I was the Inspector General at the Correctional Services Unit at the New York City Department of Investigation where I oversaw annually more than 3,000 investigations of alleged criminality and corruption in the Departments of Correction, Probation, Juvenile Justice and the TLC.

Our first priority will be Vision Zero, Mayor Bill de Blasio’s action plan with the goal of ending traffic deaths and injuries on our streets. Along with our sister agencies, the NYPD and Department of Transportation, we will be making use of every resource available to us to achieve this goal. I look forward to working with you all to make sure that New York City’s taxicabs and for-hire vehicles, and the people who drive them, provide nothing but the safest and most customer friendly service possible.

Thanks again for the warm welcome!
