FORMER TLC GENERAL COUNSEL PETER MAZER JOINS MTBOT

Long Island City, NY - Peter M. Mazer, a former General Counsel and Chief Administrative Law Judge for the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission has been hired by the Metropolitan Taxicab Board of Trade (MTBOT) as the group’s first general counsel. Mr. Mazer, a graduate of New York University and Fordham Law School, worked for the TLC for 16 years and was most recently in private practice.

“Peter Mazer is one of the taxi industry’s most respected and accomplished lawyers who understands the complexities of our industry and the many challenges we face,” said Ron Sherman, President of MTBOT. “I am confident that Peter will be a great asset to MTBOT and will help us better serve our membership.”

As general counsel to the TLC, Peter Mazer was instrumental in implementing several significant initiatives that changed the face of the industry. He presided over a successful auction of 600 taxicab medallions that involved the drafting of rules, city and state authorizing legislation and a comprehensive environmental review. Mr. Mazer presided over a team of nineteen attorneys, investigators, paralegals and support staff and was responsible for the Agency’s annual legislative and regulatory agendas. As the TLC’s top lawyer, he handled all rulemaking as well as city, state and federal legislative actions.

As Chief Administrative Law Judge, Peter Mazer supervised approximately 60 Administrative Law Judges and two Assistant Chief Judges. Having drafted and revised a new Manual for Administrative Law Judges, Peter literally wrote the book for the TLC’s Administrative Law Judges.

“MTBOT is a respected voice of advocacy for the taxi industry,” said Peter Mazer. “I feel privileged to serve as MTBOT’s first ever general counsel and I look forward to applying my experience and expertise to help better the organization and improve the taxi industry.” MTBOT is the country’s largest taxi fleet association. It represents 27 yellow medallion taxi fleets in New York City and over 3,500 medallion taxicabs – approximately 25% of the taxi industry. MTBOT members have operated more than 30 different vehicles over several decades including minivans, Compressed Natural Gas vehicles and hybrids. MTBOT advocates on behalf of its members, its 14,000 drivers and the riding public.
