On March 23, 2016, the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) opened a new licensing and inspection facility in Staten Island. It replaced what had been a smaller facility that was devastated during Superstorm Sandy. For a time, the TLC had also used a small temporary space to serve license applicants at 209 Bay Street.

The new facility, located at 1139 Hylan Boulevard in the Concord section of Staten Island, will complement the TLC's Woodside, Queens inspection facility. It is anticipated that the significantly larger 3,000-square foot space will lower wait times for visiting applicants and existing licensees.

"This long awaited facility will make it easier for many of our Staten Island licensee customers to complete their transactions and get back to the more important business of serving the public and spending time with their families," said TLC Commissioner and Chair Meera Joshi. "This project has been very near and dear to the heart of Staten Island Commissioner Elias Arout, and we are grateful to have been able to bring it to fruition today."

Commissioner Arout recently stepped down as the Staten Island Board Member after serving 27 years in the voluntary role.

"I am thrilled to see this facility come to life today," said former Commissioner Arout. "Recovering from Superstorm Sandy has been a long hard road for so many Staten Islanders, and it's been especially difficult for our licensees here. We're finally able to serve them in a way that will help them do business in the most convenient and efficient way possible."
