NEW SPECIFICATIONS APPROVED FOR IN-VEHICLE CAMERA SYSTEMS (IVCS)

The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) today announced that new specifications have been approved for In-Vehicle Camera Systems (IVCS’s) currently in use by TLC licensed medallion taxicab and for-hire vehicles in place of bullet-resistant partitions.

Existing cameras will likely need to be modified (upgraded) or replaced. We strongly encourage all licensee camera users to reach out to their original camera installer, or the authorized camera installer of their choice immediately to explore the most convenient options to bring their equipment into compliance before they are subject to enforcement action.

The three camera models that currently meet the new specifications are: Honeywell Fareview, VerifEye MKIV, and Cygnus Cygcam.

New taxi logos coming! TLC’s Board of Commissioners has approved a new package of taxi stickers, seen in this picture. Smart Design, a design firm, produced and donated these new logo designs to TLC.

Taxis must display these new stickers for their first TLC inspection on or after October 1, 2007. Taxi drivers and owners will be able to purchase the stickers from authorized printers. Check with your favorite meter shop to see when they will have the new stickers ready to print. If you want to print them yourself, please see information on how to become an authorized printer.

There are 4 stickers (per vehicle side) in this logo package: a fare panel, the NYCTAXI sticker, the medallion number and a checker stripe decal. Printing details, sticker location and size are all specified by TLC Rule.

AUTHORIZED PRINTERS OF
THE NEW TAXICAB MARKINGS

In order to be able to legally print and apply the new Taxicab Markings to licensed medallion taxicabs, you must print out two copies of the Memorandum of Understanding, a legal agreement between you and the TLC. The agreement states that you are subject to applicable copyright and trademark laws, and that you must use the compact disc containing the Taxicab Markings for the sole purpose of providing markings to licensed medallion taxicabs. You may wish to have your attorney review the agreement before you sign it. Please sign both original copies, and forward them to NYC TLC, 40 Rector Street, 5th Floor, New York, NY 10006 to the attention of the Deputy Commissioner for Legal Affairs. Upon execution of the agreement, the CD containing the markings will be made available to you.
